Safety Tips
Remember, No room in your home is free from injuries. But since most injuries are from lack of knowledge or neglect, we can do something to avoid them from happening. Here are safety tips for your home.
General Safety tips
Keep guns unloaded and locked away.
Install and maintain smoke detectors throughout the house.
Develop a fire exit plan.
If you have a chimney/fireplace have it checked annually.
Keep emergency numbers posted near the telephone
Kitchen Safety tips
Keep cords of the toaster, microwave, coffee maker, etc away from the sink and stove.
Have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen: near an exit and away from the stove.
While cooking:
Avoid loose, flowing clothes, Be careful with long sleeves
Turn pot and pan handles away from the stove front.
Do not leave a pan of cooking grease unattended
Never pick up an pan of burning grease: First turn the burner off, then slide a lid on the pan.
Keep potholders etc away from the burners
Bathroom Safety tips
Use non-skid rug ( not towels) on the floor.
The hot water temperature is not higher than 1200Never use any electrical appliances while bathingMake sure your hands are dry when plugging in appliances.
Bedroom Safety tips
Keep a working flashlight handy in case of power failure.
Have a lamp or light switch within easy reach of bed.
Keep a phone next to the bed. If you don’t have jack near the bed, consider a portable phone.
Living Room Safety tips
Secure rugs and carpets to the floor
Make sure all electrical cords are out of the flow of traffic
Make sure you have a light switch or lamp near entrances.
Another room to have a working flashlight.
